I Said I Wasn't But..

After feeling like the special
effects team in Witchblade was
trying to induce epilepsy
with it's *flashy* or *burst* of
lights fighting sequences.

Fight scenes should be viewable,
not make the viewer look
for their sunshades or blink
themselves to death.

But if you blinked,
like myself, you
missed the fight.

Next thing I saw
was Sara shrugging
her shoulders at Danny.

I was shrugging my shoulders at hubby.

Costume Dept...if Sara/Yancy Butler
is going to be "going on dates"
a decent looking outfit
might not hurt.
And we've all seen Yancy Butler
in a dress/skirt that
compliments her softer side.

I've also been
picking up on the
lesbian/bisexual hints in
the other characters dialogue

on the TNT series 'Witchblade'--
nothing is what it seems.
At the end of last season,almost
all of the regular characters had
been killed.But in the final moment,NYPD
Detective Sara Pezzini,who wields the
ancient weapon for which the series,is named
reversed time--saving those
who had died but erasing the past.

Tonight,the second season starts
with a two hour premiere that
begins at the very beginning.
"Sara makes one decision,she's
rewound time," explains
executive producer Ralph Hemecker.
"From that point on,
everything ripples out in a
different direction."
Rest assured,this is no last
season-was-all-a-dream copout.
There was some debate about
the risks of taking the
series back in time,but the
creative team convinced skeptics
that their kick-butt heroine
could keep up the mind-bending
intensity.The new story lines
will have some
"resonances to last year,"
says Hemecker.

"It's kind of like the
[told-in-reverse] movie 'Memento'
says David Chokachi,who plays
rookie cop Jake McCartey.
"There is a lot of deja vu."
Last season,Pezzini
(played by Yancy Butler)
first encountered the Witchblade,
a magical armored glove once worn
by Joan of Arc.Destined to
wear the gaunlet,which melds with
her forearm and turns into a
sword in tight spots,Pezzini
is granted the power to see the past
and future,plus change
the course of time.

Her enemy/mentor/love from a
past life is Kenneth Irons
(Anthony Cistaro),an eccentric billionaire
who wants the Witchblade for himself.
Unfortunately for him,
only women can wield it.

Chokachi and Will Yun Lee,as
Danny Woo,play fellow cops.
It's a do-over for all involved,
but it still gets complicated.
"We go back to square one,
I'm the new guy again,"
laments Chokachi,who spent last
season gaining Pezzini's respect.
This time around,however,his
character is edgier and more
streetwise-and up for all new
adventures.Lee's Danny is no longer dead
(he played a protective spirit last season)
but is dealing instead with life
as a mortal.And Irons "is
definately more twisted this year,"
says Hemecker."He's reached new
levels of nefariousness."

His role remains a crucial one.

"Irons is providing challenges
to Sara so that she can grow
with the Witchblade," explains Cistaro.
"Like the picador in the bullfight."
It may even get a little
spicier this season."There's definately
going to be a very intense and very dark
romance for Sara at one point," says Hemecker.

Butler was unavailable for an interview
at the time the story was written,
with production having been halted
amid reports of the actress' personal
problems.But filming resumed last week,
Butler included,and Hemecker assures fans:
"Everything is on-line and
good in the 'Witchblade' world."

A strange,uncertain world it is,
steeped in lore and mythology
mixing reality and the supernatural,
and blending the past,present,
and future."Everything is connected," says Hemecker.
"We do have this weird,unique
world where anything can happen,
and that setup leaves a lot of
dramatic and unexpected possiblities."

They've already killed off the big
players and gone back in time.
What could be more unexpected?

"Maybe we'll go back to World
War II or some other time period,"
says Cistaro."We could start in
the year 2050,we could slip
into the future," hints Hemecker.
"Or we could be back
with Joan of Arc."
The thread running through all this
time-travel is the wielder's bloodline
and,in this life,it's Pezzini who's
trying to save the day."Sara just
wants to make this world right,"
says Cistaro.

But is she really as
pure-hearted as we think?

"There are also evil bloodlines that
can wear the Witchblade," says Hemecker.
"You never know until the critical moment."

Sara Pezzini as a good cop gone bad?
Remember,
this is "Witchblade."
Anything is possible.

There was "one" episode that
made me feel like changing
the channel to watch
the damn Power Puff Girls,
since I felt like I was
watching one of their episodes anyway.
Especially with the dialogue
the characters of Witchblade were spewing out,
in that particular episode.

Great Hera gave me the
strength to watch that episode
for the full hour.

That episode probably gave

Yancy Butler is this series biggest strength.

Exactly why was time
reversed in Witchblade?

Season two will start with
a time warp back into the past,
Danny is once again Sara's partner.
Jake finds himself as the rookie once again.
Seems like his part on the series
will be much more subdued and
in the background.
Makes you ponder the thought
if the story was reversed to give
Will Yun Lee's character more play,
and it doesn't hurt that he
makes an appearance in James Bond
"Die Another Day" movie that's due
out later this year.
The additional publicity wouldn't hurt
Witchblade's growing popularity.

Looks like the battle against evil will
go on for Witchblade's Yancy Butler

The 31 year-old star of the TNT's supernatural
drama is expected return to the set of her
show Monday,after a monthlong stint in rehab for
alcohol abuse,according to Hollywood Reporter.
Neither Warner Bros.Television nor reps for
Butler immediately returned calls for comment Thursday.
But the trade paper quotes sources saying filming is
tentatively set to start again Monday in Toronto--
which means the second season would be able to move ahead
uninterrupted.While there were some murmurs about having
to replace Butler in the lead role,sources tell Hollywood Reporter
that her treatment was successful and she should be
back at work Monday.
Witchblade,based on the Top Cow comic book of the
same name,stars Butler as a New York
detective who gains mystical powers after coming
into contact with an ancient gauntlet.With the help
of a strong promotional push,the series performed
well for TNT in its first,11 week run last summer
and significantly improved the cable network's Tuesday ratings.
The New York born Butler got one of her first
big breaks costarring in director John Woo's
1993 Jean-Claude Van Damme flick Hard Target.

There are hopeful signs that there will
be no interruption in the second season
of TNT's action drama "Witchblade",scheduled
to launch June 16 with it's two hour premiere.
Only six episodes of the 13 needed

again the only reason alot of of viewers/fans
have continued to watch TNT's Top Cows version of Witchblade
is because of Yancy Butler
And some of you may disagree on that but if you have EVER picked up and read the comic book

aren't the storylines in the comic book more bloody interesting?
Yancy Butler's acting takes away alot of the sting
from the hideous dialogue,bad plotting and lack of developement with the characters

Certain actors/actresses CHARISMA can keep viewers/fans to continue to watch as
a series finds it's nitch or notch
Hell,look how long The X-Files remained high in the ratings
even after they moved to California for season six
Fans weren't remaining because of mind boggling plots
But because of the chemistry between Duchovny and Anderson
But even X-philers have their limit
and we showed it by the time season seven ended and season eight began!!

on what to expect from season two,
and it looks like things are changing.
"Last year was pretty serialized,"
Hemeker told Comics Continum."We're going to go a bit more
standalone this year.There will be plot threads
